Wreck Mail 1940 (May 7): Registered cover from Toronto to Stevenage, Herts., handstamped "Passed for Export" in violet at top, with original contents enclosed, presumably rescued from U-Boat attack on a Convoy with stamps floated off and straight line "SALVED FROM THE SEA" handstamp in violet at base. Reverse with Post Office "Found Open or damaged and officially secured" tape and further strike of "SALVED FROM THE SEA" handstamp tied by Stevenage arrival (July 27). Contents with somewhat prophetic message: "If this reaches you safely, you will no doubt be surprised to hear from me...".
