Apparently sent to Ferdinando Lord Fairfax (in London?) regarding the ongoing occupation of Crediton and other Cromwellian actions in Devon; "This day the Generall [Thomas Fairfax] is gone to Kirton [Crediton] to see the makeing that place a strong Quarter & to give orders about a Designe, within these 2 nights to be putt in Execution; in the taking in of a place of strength, the Enemie is Fortifyinge uppon ye River. I hope there shall, within few dayes, bee noe manner of access into ye Towne with provisions.. My Lord Goring continues still att Dartmouth. OLIVER ...更多 TIVERTON - CIVIL WAR LETTER FROM "JO RUSHWORTH" (SECRETARY TO OLIVER CROMWELL, ETC.); Fine 12 Dec. 1645 letter (no address sheet; typed transcript) from "Tiverton" written & signed by "Jo. Rushworth", the John Rushworth (c.1612-1690) noted historian and Cromwellian secretary to the New Model Army and to Cromwell. Apparently sent to Ferdinando Lord Fairfax (in London?) regarding the ongoing occupation of Crediton and other Cromwellian actions in Devon; "This day the Generall [Thomas Fairfax] is gone to Kirton [Crediton] to see the makeing that place a strong Quarter & to give orders about a Designe, within these 2 nights to be putt in Execution; in the taking in of a place of strength, the Enemie is Fortifyinge uppon ye River. I hope there shall, within few dayes, bee noe manner of access into ye Towne with provisions.. My Lord Goring continues still att Dartmouth. As soon as this place is taken (Powderham Castle]. wee shall annoy the Enemie in the South Hams & give them litle rest; I hope enforce them into Cornewall....".
