1886-1906 QV Large Chalons on Thick Beer Duty Paper with Large
Crown/Q Wmk £1 deep green SG 161 complete sheet of 30 without
margins, Pos [1/2] with Re-Entry (Doubling at the Base) SG 161a,
Pos [6/4] with unlisted Retouch (Thick Frame at Lower-Right) and
Pos [3/4] with unlisted Doubling of 'QUEENSLAND' (noted by Arthur
Basset Hull and Alan Griffiths), fiscally used with wavy-line pen
cancellations & multiple strikes of 'CANCELLED/5SEP87' datestamp in
blue, Cat £2800+ (for postally used singles). A remarkable survivor
& an impressive exhibition item. Ex Bernie Manning: sold for $1220
(Sale 146 Lot 1082). We have previously observed that it would be
helpful if Gibbons were to improve their illustrations of the
varieties & their description of the retouch. However, the retouch
has now been deleted, formerly SG 161b

Ex Francis Kiddle: sold at our auction of 23.9.2011 for $610 (Sale 168 Lot 258). Dave Elsmore has advised of the extraordinary 11x11 plate layout. This resulted in 121 positions, the last of which was occupied by the monogram, creating a more standard sheet content of 120 stamps

paper blocks of 4 for 34 denominations between 3d blue and £500
lilac, characteristic perfs and centring, several values including
the £100 with No Watermark, large-part gum. Rare mint multiples:
most apparently mint examples are remainders with colourless
embossed cancels. Ex Francis & Charles Kiddle: sold at a Sydney
auction in 2009 for $4425 (where it was erroneously stated that
there were 38 blocks). (34 blocks)
POSTAL NOTES: 1880 Wmk 'ELECTORS RIGHT/QUEENSLAND' QV 1/- green,
2/6d ...更多 POSTAL NOTES: 1880 Wmk 'ELECTORS RIGHT/QUEENSLAND' QV 1/- green, 2/6d crimson, 5/- indigo & 10/- violet (the counterfoil creased) with QV Chalons 'FEE STAMP/HALF PENNY', '.../ONE PENNY', '.../TWO PENCE' or '.../THREE PENCE' at upper-right, the 1/- with printed telegram form, the counterfoils or butts still attached, each with small 'SPECIMEN' handstamp at upper-left in red, green or oily black & each additionally with large 'SPECIMEN.' handstamp in purple, minor blemishes of imperfections, Elsmore Online Cat $2000. Superior to Jack Harwood's similar set that sold at our auction of 14.11.2014 for $1455 (Sale 196 Lot 441). (4)

and each with diagonal 'SPECIMEN.' overprint in black & small punch
hole in the margin at upper-left, minor blemishes but generally
fine, Elsmore Online Cat $5000. Rare: Dave Elsmore states that only
three such sets - and no other examples from this series - have
