Only 12 Gibbons-listed varieties are noted in the Vestey catalogue: Lord Vestey did not note the presence of the two Tilted Border units, and the Line below 'FOU' was noted only as a substituted transfer and not also as SG 3y. This impressive large-part sheet is, without any doubt, one of the Crown Jewels of Australian philately, and one of the most stimulating and technically exciting philatelic items from anywhere in the world. In addition to the presence of so many major varieties, it is evidence of the laborious nature of laying-down the individual transfers on the printing stone, resulting in inevitable uneven spacing between the clichés, most notable on the last four columns of the last four rows where the horizontal laying-down has become significantly out of alignment. Further, two of the four positions previously occupied by the Inverted Frame are present. These are [R8/11], the Line below 'FOU' of 'FOUR' and [R8/16] with Bulging Frame above 'AG' & Close above 'E' of 'POSTAGE'. margins close to good, Cat £3250. Superb. Ex Dr Cecil Walkley: sold
for $2560 (Sale 115 Lot 217). It is noteworthy that Dr Walkley had
only one unused example of this shade, compared with three of the
more highly regarded 'slate-blue'. This supports our contention
that the 'deep dull blue' is the scarcer shade. It should also be
noted that 'deep dull blue' was the shade of the First Printing, so
it should be listed by Gibbons as SG 3

with "some horizontal creasing", that sold for £5400; and 2) a
similar example to the current stamp, that sold for £4200

from ...更多 1857-59 Hillman Lithographs Imperforate 2d brown-black/red SG 15 from the right of the sheet with marginal vertical watermark lines, margins just shaved to large with a fragment of the adjoining unit below, unusual speckled effect at right that suggests the red 'paper' was in fact a red wash applied after the printing, unused, Cat £9500. A large and most unusual example of this rare unused stamp. Ex Trevor Hiscock: sold at our auction of 22.2.2013 for $1980 (Sale 178 Lot 67), at which time the Gibbons catalogue value was £4000.
