comprising 1865 France to London with Napoleon 20c blue solo,
'AFFRANCHISSEMENT/INSUFFICIANT' & 'MORE/TO/PAY' cachets and very
fine '7/7/ N /6/5' quartered-circle in red, 1865 Germany to London
unpaid with 'MAINZ' despatch, 'MAINZ/COELN' TPO backstamp and
'27/6/ N /6/5' quartered-circle in red plus similar on 1881
underpaid postcard from Berlin, 1867 India to London 'Per Overland
via Marseilles' ribbon envelope (some faults) with QV 8p lilac x2,
4a green & 8a red tied by Calcutta 'B/1' numerals, 'DEFICIENT
POSTAGE/FINE' handstamp and '7/5/ N /6/7' quartered-circle
backstamp in red, 1867 to Cape of Good Hope with QV Surface-Printed
Large Uncoloured Corner Letters 1/- green solo and very fine '4/11/
D /6/7' quartered-circle backstamp for routing via Devonport, 1888
to "Poste Restante, Homburg, Germany" with Jubilee 5d purple & blue
(small corner tear before affixing) unusually tied by '16/JU/ L
/18/88' datestamp for routing via Liverpool plus 1877 piece with
Large Coloured Corner Letters 2½d rose tied by '4/8/ L /18/77'
datestamp, and 1895 envelopes to Nassau, Bahamas x2 one with
'POSTED TOO LATE' cachet and 'MY/8/ I /18/95' backstamp for routing
via Queenstown, Ireland, the other with both ' H ' & ' I '
quartered-circle backstamps for routing via Holyhead and
Queenstown, plus 1874 Brazil to London with 100r green rated "1/-"
payable with Foreign Branch Inspector Mark 'GB/16/ FB /MR/1874'
double-ring cds and 1877 Scotland to London with ½d Bantam solo and
'AA/AP/ FB /21/1877' double-ring Inspector Mark cds, condition
generally fine to very fine except as noted. Graham Hayward states
that "Michael Scott-Archer has recorded only one example of covers
with the 'H' stamp and two with the 'I' stamp".
