"PRISONER OF WAR CENSOR" to Greenpoint, Capetown. All covers
franked by stamps from the brititish Occ. surcharged "V.R.I."

1908 registered envelope to Holland bearing an Orange River Colony
½d and an O.F.S. 6d overprinted V.R.I. with the Thick 'V' variety,
cancelled PHILIPPOLIS 29 FEB 08. A Philipollis Registration label
is at the upper left (scarce) and on the back are London 21 MR and
Wageningen 22 MR 08 transit and arrival cancels. The thick 'V'
variety is very scarce, particularly on cover, catalogued as a used
stamp at £450 by Stanley Gibbons

three 1d's, paying 8d at a double letter rate of between ½oz and
1oz at 4d per ½oz. The stamps have been cancelled by barred '10'
cancellers with a PHILIPPOLIS JU 10 95 datestamp on the back of the
cover. Cape Town JU 12 and Rotterdam transit and arrival cancels
are also on the back. Fine

1900 envelope to London franked with a strip of five½d, the first
two stamps having raised but level stops, the third stamp with the
stop raised after the R, the fourth stamp with the stops raised
after the R and I and the last stamp with small raised level stops.
The stamps have been cancelled BLOEMFONTEIN JU 25. (Year omitted)
On the reverse is a London JY 16 arrival cancel. An interesting
commercial cover with all the varieties

colour and good perforations, tied by cds “WINBURG O.V.S. SP 21 96”
to a registered envelope sent to Budapest, Hungary, faint violet
hooded circle “REGISTERED OCT 96”. Reverse, oval “REGISTERED CAPE
TOWN SP 27 98” and arrival cds “BUDAPEST FO POSTA 96 OCT 12”.
Scarce high-value on cover. Note: Sent as a parcel envelope, the 5s
paying the third and highest weight step in international parcel
post.

Zuringkranz was a very small sub post office on the Senegal to Bethlehem road, 15 miles from Senegal and 30 miles from Bethlehem. The post office was housed in a general store. Very little mail is seen from this post office. Fine
