and 'SCIO/OCT/15/1963/OREG.' arrival in violet, light vertical bend
clear of the stamp & most markings, minor transmission marks. Ex Dr

Island, ...更多 1908 (April 2) picture postcard to "Master Darling, Christmas Island, Straits Settlements, via Singapore", from Scotland with Great Britain KEVII 1d red tied Ayreshire cds cancel, largely very fine 'PENANG TO SINGAPORE/MY 16/1908' marine sorter cds and light but clear 'CHRISTMAS ISLAND/MY23/09' 28mm cds (Proud D7) arrival both on the address side, a couple of minor transmission marks. Colin Riddell's example from the same correspondence with slightly finer strikes of the datestamps sold at our auction of 24.11.2018 for $738 (Sale 231 Lot 974). Ex Dr William Wells.

Toroaniara BSIP' printed in blue on the flap, to Sydney with 2d
House & Canoe tied by indistinct Tulagi cds, scarce blue/white
'OPENED BY CENSOR' handstamp tied to the face by very fine boxed
'PASSED BY CENSOR' in violet. Early use of this censor cachet at
Tulagi, which is not recorded by Little (but does match that used
on the cover illustrated by him at page 151). The Bishop was not a
6.2.1942 evacuee, moving instead to Malaita.

lower-left, to Essex with Small Canoe 4d red/yellow (Cat £13 x25+
on cover) tied by a light but legible strike of
'TULAGI/MY10/--12/...' cds ('19' omitted), 'EARLS
COLNE/JY1/12/ESSEX' arrival cds & redirected to "Ramsgate", four
different oval 'REGISTERED' datestamps, very minor blemishes. A
beautiful cover. *FKS338*

1908 (late) Harding & Billings (Sydney) photo-mechanical PPC
('AOLA...', of native with rifle & a friend holding the day's catch
of exotic birds), to Sydney with Large Canoe 1d (corner fault) tied
by fine strike of the seriffed straight-line 'S.S.UPOLU' handstamp
(34x4mm) in violet, minor blemishes. Unrecorded by Don Franks. We
have dated this card from the reference to "...Hope you had a gay
old time when the American Fleet was in [Sydney]...", which was
early-September 1908. Don Franks records a similar strike also on
the 1d - *FKS 210* - purporting to be from 1910, but by this time
the sans-serif handstamp was in use.

1901/71: Postal history collection of thirty-five covers and cards
bearing Lakatoi issues ½ d. to 2 s. 6 d., including 2 d. bisect
usage, pair of 1 s. on registered cover to USA (SG58), and 2 s. 6
d. single franking on registered cover to Dresden (SG82). The
collection includes a range of airmail covers with first flight
usages and autographed items, combination and mixed frankings,
varied postal usages, and some philatelic correspondence including
mail to stamp dealers, and 1907 OHMS Government Gazette wrapper
franked ½ d. sent to Sydney. Also noted a 1930 airmail cover
bearing both Air Mail Cooke and Harrison 3 d. printings in
combination, 1935 Silver Jubilee 2 d. in combination with air mail
3 d. first flight Port Moresby/Yodda/IOMA, unused 1901/05 postal
stationery cards (1 d. and 1½ d.) and additionally an original 1895
printed map of Papua New Guinea showing British and German
possessions. Condition mixed as to be expected for postal history
material, though many items fine. A colourful and interesting
assembly offering considerable scope for further study and
expansion.
