Boise City, Idaho, May 29. Sharp strike of double circle datestamp
with cut cork killer tying 1861 3¢ rose on yellow cover to Albany
N.Y. with "Carrier Jun 24 1867" black cds, included is original
enclosure datelined "Statesman Office, Boise City, Idaho Territory
May 28th, 1867" and reads, in part, "...no room to doubt that Jas.
Ullman an account of whose death you saw in the telegram was your
brother...Silver City- is situated about seventy miles from here,
and the place where the stage was attacked is about half way
between. I send you by mail in envelope postpaid a copy of Stateman
containing an account of that affair...I learned from inquiring
since receiving your letter that he had accumulated some five or
six hundred dollars which he had on his person at the time of his
death. Of course no part of that was saved as the savages stripped
the bodies of the murdered men. My informant also tells me that he
was on his way to this city to go to some new mines that have been
discovered on Salmon river in this territory. He had made a raise
of the money he had with him, if any with his violin which he was
accustomed to play for parties and saloons. I also hear it stated
that some parties owed him several hundred dollars, but whether it
is so, or who they were I have not learned...Jas. S. Reynolds,

MAIL" ...更多 Malad City, Idaho. Oct 29, 1890. Large black cds with fancy "US MAIL" in circle killer tying 1¢ adhesive on uprated 1¢ entire to Chicago, unusual contemporary manuscript notations include "Sent to P.M. for signature" and "Th P.M. 25¢ No letter" in circle, with return address "Postmaster, Malad, Ida" at left; tiny filing hole in center of cover, Very Fine. Estimate; $100 - 150. Established in 1864, Malad City is one of the oldest communities in the state of Idaho. The community received its name from Donald Mackenzie, a Scottish-Canadian trapper, who passed through the valley between 1818 and 1821 with a party of trappers. Some of his men became sick while camped here and, believing that the illness was caused by drinking water from the valley's principal stream, he named it "Malade" meaning sick or bad in the French language

datelined "Ruby City, Onyhee I.T. Nov 1st 1866" and is mostly of a
mining business nature, talks of going to California to buy some
"ledge", etc., backflap damaged, minor corner wear, Very Fine and a
fascinating mining letter. Estimate; $200 - 300

Challis, IT, Challis May 14 79. Black circular handstamp with
negative lettering "Challis IT", the postmaster must have felt it
not clear enough as he then wrote in manuscript within the marking
"Challis May 14 79" with matching segmented cork killer on 1¢
postal card addressed to Salmon City with business contents signed
J.M. Sharp, Very Fine and rare, Consignor notes "may be unique."
Certainly early and rare. Estimate; $200 - 300. Challis was founded
in 1878 and named for A.P. Challis, who was a surveyor when the
townsite was laid out. Challis post office was established in 1878
