Rated RRRR. Ex William Frazer. Lord Vestey's very fine example sold for £360. The 'Besancon' example - shaved at top & truncated at the base - sold for SFr605. Absent from Don Pearce's collection

RED OVERPRINT: 'M.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Rouletted 2d pale vermilion SG DO325, rouletting at top and right and cut from the sheet well clear of the design at left and base, light GPO cds of 'OC2/68', Cat £1100. Not recorded used by Ron Butler and we have recorded only two other examples so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex 'Sir Humphrey' (Brian Farmer): sold for $875 (Sale 118 Lot 449). Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2010) states "extremely rare". Don Pearce's larger example - a bit aged - sold for $1915 (Sale 247 Lot 520). Absent from 'Besancon'. [Date range 2.7.1868 to 31.1.1869]

Rated RRRR. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Ernest Lye and Colonel Napier (II). Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2004) states "very rare". Rodney Attwood's similar example sold for $1050 (Sale 168 Lot 409). Rated R. Superb. Superior to the 'Tamiami' (Sale 236 Lot 656) and Don Pearce (Sale 247 Lot 521) examples that each sold for $227. [Date range 7.4.1868 to 9.3.1869]

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'M.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Perf 11½-12½xRouletted 1/- red-brown on brownish tinted paper SG DO330, Misplaced Perforations resulting in 'POSTAGE' at the Base and Misplaced Roulettes so cut from the sheet to preserve the design at right, a couple of minor tonespots on the reverse, indistinct cancel. Rated RRRR. Ex EB Lye, Colonel Napier (I) and Don Pearce: sold for $455 (Sale 247 Lot 525). RPSL Certificate (1965). The similar 'Tamiami' example sold for $347. Absent from 'Besancon'. [Date range 12.10.1869 to -.8.1870]

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'M.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Perf 11½-12½xRouletted 1/- red-brown SG DO330, misplaced rouletting at left so cut from the sheet well clear of the design, closed 10mm tear at upper-right doesn't detract from the very fine facial appearance, unused, Cat £1700. Unrecorded unused by Ron Butler and we have recorded only two other examples so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Theodore Champion and Philip Croker. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2009) states "extremely rare" but does not mention the tear. The very fine Vestey and 'Besancon' examples sold for £1320 and SFr2175 respectively
