1915 censored picture post card (Bethanien) to Jeppestown, Johannesburg, endorsed ’30-4-15 On Active Service, with a fine strike of the boxed Field Post Office ‘37’ 16 MAY 1915 datestamp. No. 37 was at KUIBIS, when it opened there on 14 May 1915. The card has a bilingual censor strike at the base. Interesting reading: The writer says’ We had a big fight the other day but I am glad to say that I came out of it all right. We lost a lot of men …… It took 17 days for the card, from the time of writing, to get into the postal system. A scarce F.P.O. numeral cancel

An additional cancel is alongside dated 20.7.16. A red boxed bilingual censor cachet is at the left. This violet straight line POST NEUHEUSIS cancel is very rare on cover and was only used between July and September 1916. (Putzel 2 oc, 2000 points) Very fine

Neither Otyimbingue or Walfish Bay had post offices in the 1880’s so no cancels from either of them. 1916 incoming cover from Geneva, Switzerland, that has had the stamp either removed or it has fallen off, and the cover has been taxed with a ‘T’ tax mark and a superb 5d due h/s. To pay this a Transvaal 5d postage due stamp has been affixed and cancelled on arrival LUDERITZBUCHT 9 SEP 16. An extremely fine and rarely seen commercial cover with this Postage Due stamp, the 5d paying the double deficiency of 2½d, which was the postage rate from Switzerland

It is rare and the only one I have seen in over 30 years

Narubis was a postal agency on Farm 57 in the Keetmanshoop district, that opened in 1916 and closed on 27 May 1919. It reopened again in 1922, but no postmarks are known between the end of 1917 and 1931. Putzel states that ????ood strikes are very difficult to find?. This would definitely be classified as a good strike! Fine

1916 South Africa ½d Kings Head post card to Keetmanshoop with a boxed '59' Military F.P.O. canceller, dated 1 OCT 1916, with Otavifontein inserted in red ink. By October the rubber canceller had deteriorated considerably and whereas red or violet ink had been used, they had now switched to black ink, though some of the original red ink can still be seen in the canceller. A Keetmanshoop arrival c.d.s. is on the back of the card. Very few examples of this canceller with a manuscript insert are known. A fine and rare item

1917 censored envelope to Windhuk bearing a South African Kings Head 1d tied by the very scarce ERUNDU 30. 10. 17. datestamp, converted from the German Type II 'Wanderstempel'. The cover has been censored and resealed with tape as well as having a circular censor cachet. The Erundu postal agency was situated on Farm 136, south west of Otjiwarongo. It was a short lived agency, opening 30.6.1916 and closing 31.3.1918. A very fine example of this rare canceller (4000 points in Putzel's book 'Postmarks of South West Africa')
