that had a fire on board on the 21st or 22nd December. Little
detail is known as to what happened but the mail received a violet
two line cachet ‘CORRESPONDENCE RETARDEE / PAR SUITE D’UN INCENDIE’

There were five detention camps at Karaolos, which was near Famagusta. These were camps 55, 60, 61, 62 and 63 and all were built near the beach area. This card is going to an uncommon destination from Karaolos

1916 picture post card (Custom House, Dublin) to Glasgow, with a ½d
tied by the barred DUBLIN parcel canceller. This was brought into
emergency use after the Post Office was occupied by the rebels on
April 24th and all mail thereafter, until the Easter Rebellion was
over, was handled at the Dublin Parcel Depot at Amiens Street. A
fine example of this cancel used during the Easter Rebellion

1936 CESARE BATTISTI. At 10 p.m. on 23 December 1936 a boiler
exploded aboard the Italian 8331 ton steam ship Cesare Battisti
which was at anchor at Massowah Harbour, Eritrea. 26 people were
killed and over 100 injured. The ship sank and came to rest on the
bottom of the harbour. Only two items of mail are known, a cover
and this post card to Somalia. Both have a label attached written
in Italian. A very rare item from this incident
