2d ...mehr RAILWAY STRIKE MAIL AIR MAIL. 1929 envelope to Bulawayo bearing a 2d cancelled NDOLA 15 FEB 29 that was carried by the R.A.F. during the railway strike on the Copperbelt.. This R.A.F. Plane left Cairo on February 12th on the annual Cairo to Cape Town flight. It arrived at Ndola on February 25 where it picked up the mail. From there it went to Livingstone (Feb 27) and arrived in Bulawayo on February 28. All the covers known (11) are addressed to Duly & Co in Bulawayo. All are crumpled as they were rescued from a waste paper basket. An extremely rare cover and one of very few that has 'R.A.F.' written on the back in ink
1984 envelope from Cambridge to Sussex that has been badly damaged
by ...mehr 1984 envelope from Cambridge to Sussex that has been badly damaged by fire and water (when extinguishing the fire) which has washed off the stamp. A Post Office letter states 'that the item has been damaged by a very serious fire in a railway coach at Cambridge Railway Station on 19 December 1984.' Very little mail seems to have survived this incident and this is only the third cover recorded to date from it. A rare train incident

RAIL 23 SEP 07. A very scarce cancellation, first recorded in 1904.
Tweespruit was in the Thaba 'Nchu district and the post office was
situated on the farm Floraville. Tweespruit Rail telegraph office
was about a half mile away, on the railway line. This is the first
time I have seen this canceller!

1899 WRECK OF THE 'CHICAGO'. The Pennsylvania Rail Road Ferryboat
‘Chicago’, whilst bound from Jersey City to New York, sank in the
Hudson River after a collision with the steamer ‘City of Augusta’
at midnight on 30/31 October 1899. The ‘Chicago’ was subsequently
raised on the 6 December. All the mail was salvaged and was
delivered within a couple of days of the disaster occurring.
However, as it appeared that all the mail had been damaged by water
to a greater or lesser extent and the adhesives had floated off,
labels was affixed to covers by the New York Postmaster. There were
three different types of label used, this one believed locally and
individually typed in Hoboken. (Hoggarth & Gwynn type 1) A fine
example of this uncommon shipwreck, of which less than 20 covers
are known and less than 5 with this label

and a Halle 22.4.94 arrival c.d.s. This canceller was used at the
Ventersburg Road Rail Office. A rarely seen canceller

The cover was opened and resealed by bilingual 'Field Censor' tape.
On the back is a Windhuk 19 MAY 17 arrival c.d.s. A fine example of
this scarce canceller

both Kantey and Putzel. Umsumbi (now Umzumbe) is on the coast at
the Mzumbe River Mouth in Southern Natal. An important item and a
major new edition to Natal postmarks
