AKSUM, Denar (1,02 g), Anfang 7. Jh. Armah. Av.: Gerüstetes und bekröntes Brustbild des Königs mit Kreuzstab nach rechts, dahinter ein weiterer Kreuzstab mit Griff aus Weizenähre sowie ein kleineres Kreuz neben dem Nacken und Umschrift in Ge´ez: "ngs ´rmH" ("König Armah"). Rev.: Bogen, gestützt von zwei Säulen, darüber griechisches Kreuz, zwei kleinere Stabkreuze an den Seiten, ein Ringel hängt unter dem Bogen und Umschrift in Ge´ez: "shl wslm" ("Gnade und Frieden"). BMC Aksum 566, Schrötlingsriss, lt. korrodiert, ss. König Armah war der letzte christliche König, des Aksumitischen Reichs, der noch Münzen ausgab; er ist nahezu ausschließlich über dieselben bekannt. Durch das Aufkommen des Islam und die Entstehung des Umayyadischen Kalifats, brach der Handel mit Ostrom ab. Die Bedeutung für den internationalen Handel angefertigten Münzen verloren daraufhin an Bedeutung und das Aksumitische Reich ging seiner Isolation entgegen. Armah ist evtl. mit Ashama ibn Abjar identisch und somit dem nach muslimischen Quellen aksumitischen König, der zum Islam konvertierte
