1883 (July 25): Registered 'circular' envelope to Scotland franked
with 1882 bisect '½' in red on 1 d. lilac in four severed pairs
consisting of stamps from right and left, tied by 'A07'
obliterators, DOMINICA cds at base. The envelope was originally
addressed and unsealed with flap tucked in to Edinburgh whose
arrival cds appears on reverse and re-addressed to London and
sealed, the old address carefully removed and new one added. Fine
and fresh

1906: On His Majesty's Service, Official Post Office Dominica envelope, used with cds “GEN. POST OFFICE DOMINICA JU 1 06” alongside a framed oval “R”, and registration information box in red numbered “422” sent unpaid to Vienna, Austria and intercepted in London with manuscript “absence of stamps noted & reported in London”. Reverse, transit hooded circle “REGISTERED LONDON 18 JU 06”. Vertical filing fold to left of heading. Fine. Scarce example of Official mail intercepted and reported. Note: While the OHMS free frank was valid within the Empire, it was not valid in the UPU to destinations outside the Empire. Regular postage were required on official mail, except on correspondence between postal administrations.

Interesting contents: Mentions treatment for gout and requests the Anti Jacobin British Critic and Gentleman’s Magazine to be sent by the packet

1893 cover sent registered to Lyon, France, with four Leeward Islands 1d’s (a single and a strip of three) and a ½d, correctly paying the 2d registration and 2½d postage. The stamps have been cancelled DOMINICA. A Portsmouth 21 DE 93 transit cancel is on the front of the cover, along with a London 11 JA 94 c.d.s. On the back is a Lyon arrival datestamp. No explanation as to why it sat in the postal system for three weeks in England before being sent to London from Portsmouth. An interesting commercial cover
