1834 (Aug 11): Entire letter from Berbice to Belfast endorsed "Packet" at base, twice readdressed initially to Cheltenham and then to London; with "BERBICE / August 11, 1834" handstamp on reverse and "DEMERARA" fleuron transit, both in black. On arrival manuscript "Redirected at" in front of "BELFAST" straight line in black on obverse, thence to Cheltenham with cds in black (Oct 15) and again forwarded to London (Oct 16) with an eventual total of "5/3d." to pay in manuscript. A fine and unusual entire with full transcript. Note: Lengthy letter, including a report on the large purchases of Negro slaves for the estate (rather sadly 139 slaves from 11 years old upwards), costing an average of £29 each, with a comment "2 or 3 mulatto women and children, useless". Later remarks on the state of unrest amongst the slaves and how several plantations were experiencing strikes.

Despite faults, a scarce pair of covers.
