HOLLAND. On the night of the 5th / 6th October 1952, the freight train from Martelaarsgracht to St Nicolaaskerk fell into the Damrak Canal after a steering failure caused the train to collide with the railing of a bridge over the canal. The driver and one passenger escaped and were rescued by police. Recovered mail was forwarded with an explanatory label. A receiving h/s shows the mail was delayed by three days

1930 MAIL VAN FIRE. A mail van caught fire between Arnhem and Emmerich on 24th April 1930. The mail was being transported by van as there was no train service between these two towns. A two line cachet was applied to damaged mail. Reports say that over half the mail was destroyed. A seldom seen item from this incident
