Lord Clifford Poste Restante Rouen France" dated September 10th with ms "P1/10" and on front fine to very fine strike of the very rare distinctive "Bridport/137*" hand stamp in black (DT104). On front London PAID date stamp 12 SP 1818. Believed to be the only recorded example of this hand stamp, the "*" thought to be a screw head holding the cancellation together. (Ref 110297).

Pre-Stamp Mail accumulation filling a small box from 1700s part-entire with Government Penny Post 'PENY POST/ P / FR /PAYD' Dockwra-type triangle, 1822 entire with 'To be delivered/by 10 Sund.Morn.' cachet in red, also noted Bishop Marks, Free cachets, Paid handstamps and a range of London District & Provincial 'Penny Post' markings extending to 1840s-50s unstamped items, the quality of the markings & condition very mixed but better items noted throughout, so personal inspection is required.

QV Line-Engraved Imperforate Penny Red frankings accumulation of 1d reds on entires & envelopes with a wide variety of postmarks, numerals & 'ties', including a good representation from Scotland and a few from Ireland, London District markings noted 'Cornhill' in red, 'Hampstead, 'King William St' & 'Moorgate St', also other markings such as 'TOO LATE', 1850 Middleham to West Burton endorsed "Paid 1d extra/Pr Loose Bag", etc, etc, some pairs & multiple frankings, lots of mourning envelopes, a few annotated minor varieties and no doubt others to be found, condition of both the stamps & covers quite variable with some file folds & soiling but many are fine to very fine.

Lord Clifford Poste Restante Rouen France" dated September 10th with ms "P1/10" and on front fine to very fine strike of the very rare distinctive "Bridport/137*" hand stamp in black (DT104). On front London PAID date stamp 12 SP 1818. Believed to be the only recorded example of this hand stamp, the "*" thought to be a screw head holding the cancellation together. (Ref 110297).
