Austrian Lloyd P.O. in Beirut 1864 (Feb 7): Fully paid Envelope from Damascus via Beirut to Morat / Murten, Switzerland, struck by fair two-line „BEYRUT. / 7. FEB.“ datestamp (Tranmer fig. 2). Reverse with "J. J. WEBER & Cie / BAGDAD" bilingual sender's cachet in blue, BRIG transit cds, and MORAT arrival cds (Feb 23), both in black. Reverse shows postage calculation with 20 soldi for the Lloyd and 25 soldi for Austria & Switzerland. Cover torn at top and some staining, nevertheless a spectacular through the desert item to Switzerland. Reference: Displayed and discussed in Cedar catalogue, page 17.
