1870 (Sep 27) "Ballons Monté" balloon cover transported by "Les Etats-Unis" from Paris to Valparaiso, Chile, franked with Empire Lauré 80c and 20c perf. (Yv. 29 + 32) tied by "6" dotted star cancel, with Paris Sénat of 27.09.70, endorsed in French "via Panama or Magellan", red boxed "PP" and London October 3 transit, archive fold on the bottom of the letter affecting the stamps, an exceptional destination and a great rarity for the Chile airmail collector; cert. 1881: Surface-Printed 1 penny lilac, Crown wmk., perf. 14, in combination with Chile 1894, postage due surcharged “Valparaiso 6c. Multada” in black on yellow, unwmk., perf. 13, both of good colour and perforations mostly fine, the former tied by squared circle “CARDIFF BARRY DOCKS BO SP 30 94” and the latter a cds “VALPARAISO CHILE 21 XI 94”, to an envelope sent from Cardiff, Wales to Valparaiso, Chile, with “T” handstamp in black and manuscript “15”. Reverse, an arrival “VALPARAISO CHILE 21 XI 94”. The 1 penny has corner clipped top left, small part of envelope at top left missing, which has been repaired with part of reverse. Fine. Scarce combination.

1865: Surface-Printed 4 pence vermilion, plate 14, Large Garter wmk., perf. 14, a horizontal strip of three, fresh colour and fine perforations, tied by British Post Office in Panama barred oval “C35” to an envelope to Newark, England, endorsed “via West Indian Mail” and dated by sender “July 2nd 75”, with cds “PANAMA JY 20 75” alongside. Reverse, arrival “NEWARK AU13 75”. Fine. Scarce usage from the amazing “Pollard Correspondence” posted on the second day of UPU.Note: Envelope was sent from Valparaiso, Chile and carried by favour to Panama; saving 6 pence.
