1870/72: Turkey 5 pi. blue, a marginal example, used with 1876 1 pi. yellow on reverse of 1879 part cover to Stamboul tied by "POSTA SUBESI DEIR EZ ZOR" in black (Coles & Walker fig. 119), the 5 pi. cut through on opening, with Stamboul cds alongside of arrival. Obverse with part Aleppo transit cds. Despite faults, a rare usage.

Courrier letter from Kurdistan, then by French shipmail to Rome 1856 (Nov 23): Entire letter written in Italian by the missionary P. - Luigi di Negro from Sakow, Kurdistan dated "Mar Sakow Kurdistan li 23 9bre 1856" and directed to Cardinale Alessandro Barnabo, the Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith (Latin: Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide) in Rome, obverse struck by "BORYSTHENE 14 JANV" (1857) Mediterranean ship's cds and upon arrival by "CIVITAVECCHIA / DALLA VIA DI MARE" handstamp. Reverse with CIVITAVECCHIA (Jan 19) and ROMA (Jan 20) arrival cds's in black and red, respectively. A most interesting entire from an elusive origin, directed with French shipmail to Rome, cert. BPA (2002).
