The strikes including three examples of the 148 Starburst, four with circular datestamp (type 1B) and two cancelled by the 336 Bar cancellation. Condition mixed as to be expected, although the 4 d. pair is fine. A useful and interesting assembly of these distinctive Thursday Island cancellations.

The group includes a 2½ d. pair showing the variety “Thin d” flaw (SG24a). A useful assembly of these distinctive handstamp registered markings, condition mixed in places as to be expected, nevertheless a scarce and interesting selection.

1901/07: Lakatoi overprints specialised study mounted on six album pages, comprising a selection of twenty unused examples and a used block of four, illustrating the principal overprint types, paper varieties and positional flaws of the early Papua overprinted issues. The study includes a range of denominations from the ½ d. to 2 s. 6 d. values, showing the early “Papua” overprints, with examples printed on thin, medium and thick papers, together with both line and comb perforations. Several examples demonstrate differences in watermark orientation, paper thickness and impression quality, illustrating the production variations of the Port Moresby overprinting period. Included are several positional and overprint varieties, notably the SG21 positional flaw “Dot in first P of Papua” (position 8), recognised as the only constant overprint flaw recorded in the Large Papua overprint series and occurring only on the ½ d. value. Additional material illustrates overprint irregularities such as raised or distorted letters, double impressions and misplaced overprints, together with examples showing double printed overprints and “kiss” prints. The group includes two forgeries, 6 d. with a repainted overprint (SG26 Ceremuga certificate confirming alteration) and 2½ d. horizontal pair positions 19/20 thick paper not genuine despite BPA certificate of authenticity (SG35b), as well as a Stamp Duty overprinted strip of three illustrating positional dots after “Duty”, providing additional insight into the typographic setting of the overprints. A well-organised and instructive reference study of the early Papua overprinted Lakatoi issues, demonstrating the complexity of the overprinting process and the range of recognised constant and transient varieties. The study includes six multiples, comprising three imprint blocks of six and two imprint strips of three, together with additional blocks of four and singles arranged by identified plate positions, providing a useful reconstruction of portions of the setting. The material illustrates several recognised varieties and positional features, including the position 27 variety “POSTACE” for “POSTAGE”, together with additional plate flaws, retouches, misplaced or distorted overprint impressions, position 16 "Double Perf" in left margin. Also included are comparative examples of the Harrison printing on different papers, and positional pieces demonstrating the relationship between the overprint and the underlying Lakatoi design.
