1855/63: 4 d. blue on white paper, two single used examples with left (Pos. XII 2 A) and right (Pos. XII 3 A) each with touched to good margins on 1864 cover endorsed "per Eastern Province" from Port Elizabeth to London, tied by CGH obliterators in black. Carried on the Maiden return voyage of the newly established Diamond Steam Navigation Company's line. The cover was carried at the private ship double rate of 8 d. with an equal split of the Postage between the UK and the Colony. Reverse with flap fault and GRAHAMSTOWN oval framed despatch datestamp in red (June 18) with 'London / Paid' arrival cds (Aug 1) on obverse.
