Tati Concessions 1888: Bechuanaland 1 d. on 1 d. lilac & black,
wmk. ...more Tati Concessions 1888: Bechuanaland 1 d. on 1 d. lilac & black, wmk. Orb, perf. 14, the famous used example cancelled by "TATI / BECHUANALAND" circular datestamp (21 Aug 1888) in black. As Tati was not part of Bechuanaland this cancellation was altered immediately after this journey with "Bechuanaland" being erased. This stamp being used on the sole Southbound journey from Tati to Vryburg. Superb and of great rarity. Note: The Tati Postal Agency was opened on August 15, 1888 and on the first mail South, the stamps were pen-cancelled. The canceller used above was delivered to the Tati Agency srrived in time for the second post (Aug 21). As the Tati District was claimed by both Khama and Lobenguela, the word "Bechuanaland" was removed immediately after this mail. Provenance: Collection H.R.
