alongside 2 c. carmine to cover to San Francisco, tied by Pittsburg
duplex (May 6, 1903), forwarded from San Francisco to London,
England, with additional 1888 10 c. Special Delivery and 5c
postage, struck in violet "FEE EARNED" and "FORWARDED / Delivery
Fee collected by / Office of first address", range of San Francisco
and RPO transit markings, received in New York and postmarked by
Foreign Mail Office (May 16), second address crossed-out and
handstamped "OFFERED AT ADDRESS / AT / CAUSE OF NON DELIVERY", with
manuscript endorsement indicating the connecting steamer had
sailed, Special Delivery informational label affixed overtop of
address, ultimate London c.d.s. arrival backstamp (May 26), some
small flaws given the cover's extended journey, exceptionally
striking and rare, being the only recorded mixed franking of the
1888 and 1902 Special Delivery issues
