23/JUL/1868 Derry - South Africa: Cover sent to "Captain The Honr. Ernest G L Cochrane, HMS Petrel, Cape of Good Hope". The postage was paid with SG.43 plate 103 x6 + 104 pl. 6 (the stamp at top left folded over top of envelope to leave address clear), each stamp neatly cancelled by "Derry - 172" duplex, and transit backstamp of London. A very attractive cover carried by the Union Steamship Company at the inauguracion of the 3rd contract period in July 1868. NOTE: the previous owner bought this piece at Stanley Gibbons of London for £350, circa the year 2000, good opportunity at low start!
