Description

Austrian Consular P.O. in Beirut 1866 (Oct 30): Entire letter written in Hebrew to Trieste bearing a horizontal strip of three 1864 Arms 5 so. rose perf 9½, a fine slightly toned multiple well embossed, tied by „BERUTTI 30 / 10“ cds in brownish black (Tranmer fig. 3)., the bilingual sender's cachet of Aron Jedid Levy in blue alongside. Reverse with oval TRIEST arrival datestamp (Nov 13). Lower left part of cover front skillfully restored and part of address label redrawn, nevertheless an appealing cover with the adhesives paying correctly the 15 soldi Lloyd rate to Trieste harbour in its first month, valid from October 15, 1866. Ferchenbauer = € 1'800 for the multiple on cover. Reference: Displayed and discussed in Cedar catalogue, page 18.
