A fascinating letter from Hugh Clifford in Valladolid to his Father, giving his account of his visit to the site of the recent Battle of Salamanca - The vultures were so tame that 7 of them were feeding together on the mangled remains, let us approach quite near before theywould quit their disgusting meal. I have become quite accustomed to the sight of skeletons but at Arpiles the smell and sight were such as I shall never forget Approximately 13,000 French were killed and 6,000 British buried.
