in combination with New Dies 1886/87 1 c. vermilion on pale
yellowish (2 examples), on 1887 cover at single rate to Paris,
cancelled "Holsatia" in violet manuscript (Hapag Line) and again
upon arrival in Le Havre with five strikes of the "Le Havre / Seine
Inferieure" cds (April 17). Top right hand corner of envelope
repaired, part back flap missing and trivial soiling but a rare and
most unusual cover.

first ...more HAITI: 1882: Liberty Head, strip of three 7 c. blue, plate II, first printing, used in combination with 1887 Salomon 1 c. lake, irregular block of five and a strip of three 3 c. blue, used on a registered cover from Port au Prince to Kingston, Jamaica, dated 25 August 1888, tied by dispatch datestamp, framed registered 'R' in black and Jamaica registered oval in black alongside dated 8 September 1888, soiled, although a very rare mailing and very scarce combination franking; the only recorded 'Caribbean Area' rate cover franked with Salomon stamps; the 35 c. franking pays a five-times 'Caribbean Area' foreign letter rate (for distances of less than 300 miles) and the 10c. registration fee. This letter would have weighed between 61 and 75 grams. Ex the Brian Moorhouse Estate.
