1841 QV Line-Engraved Penny Red Stars Imperforate 1d orange-brown Printed from 'Black' Plates SG 7 Plate 8 marginal horizontal pair from the right of the sheet [PK-PL] with a fragment of the imprint and both units with Frame Omitted at Left, excellent colour, margins close to huge except where slightly cut-into at the top, large-part gum, Cat £19,000+ for normal singles. Very attractive. Identified from 'Plating the Penny Black' by Charles Nissen and the similar work by Ted Proud.

Full prepayment to Naples was impossible at the time, 5d. paid the postage to the French entry port of Calais, the balance (23 grana in ms.) was charged to the addressee on delivery. Very rare, just three 5d part payment frankings to the Kingdom of Naples are recorded in the Karl Louis Card Index, of which this is the earliest.
