Sharp strike of two-line postmark on circa 1862 yellow cover to Mass. bearing horizontal pair of 1861 10¢ green (68, right stamp with small defect), cancelled by second strike of straight-line postmark on nose of the pair, with extraneous ink line at right "tying" right stamp to cover; trivial edge wear, Very Fine. Scott No. 68; Estimate $400 - 600. A LOVELY COVER WITH THIS RARE STRAIGHT LINE POSTMARK. This two-line Walla Walla, Washington Territory postmark was used only from Nov. 17th 1862 to February 1863

Envelope, 1854, Nesbitt 1st Issue, 3¢ red on buff, "THREE" in medium wide label with curved ends. Black cds on 10¢ green Nesbitt entire (U10) with month, day and last two digits of year in manuscript, cover to Illinois; trivial corner wear at top, Extremely Fine, A similar example realized $3,000 hammer in our Sale #101, Lot #733. Scott No. U10; Estimate $1,000 - 1,500. ONE OF ONLY FOUR EXAMPLES RECORDED FROM THIS RARE AND SHORT-LIVED WASHINGTON TERRITORIAL POST OFFICE (1858-1860). Camp Semiahmoo was founded by the Boundary Commission in 1858 as a base of operation for the northwest boundary commission survey on Canadian soil, among the remnants of the earlier British camp, on a little strip of open land near the mouth of the little Campbell River close to one of the Semiahmoo winter camps. The site was just north of the forty-ninth parallel; contained a fresh water supply, and the Campbell River channel provided water access over the tidal flats. While at this site the troops constructed about a mile and three-quarters of good road along the shore of Semiahmoo Bay between the boundary and Camp Semiahmoo. This base was later used while the boundary was slashed and marked from Semiahmoo Bay to the Sumas Flats
