Dr. Reinhard Fischer 189th Auction
Philaty:
The auction house Dr. Reinhard Fischer in Bonn will hold its 189th auction from November 24 to 26. Our 189th auction includes almost 7,000 lots with a large variety of rarities and highlights in the area of philately as well as an interesting offer of almost 1,800 lots in the area of numismatics.
In a special section the first part of the “Dr. Hans Joachim Brinkmann” collection is offered. Over the span of decades , the successful entrepreneur from Detmold has assembled a very impressive collection. The heart of the collection is a general collection Germany that includes a number of special items. The collection was not built depending on want lists but rather because of the appeal of the items. Aside from rare issued stamps, it includes beautiful and in part rare letters, special cancellations and varieties. Apart from German philately, Dr. Brinkmann also collected items from Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland and in particular the classical/semiclassical stamps of the United States. The offer includes a One kreuzer black (“Bayern Einser”) in used very fine condition (MiNo. 1Ia, starting price €1,500.-) as well as rarities from the colonies such as the Marshall Islands MiNo. 1Ib in the rare shade with a genuine cancellation in flawless condition (starting price €2,000.-) and sought-after occupation issues such as the Montenegro MiNo. 10/19 in MNH ** condition (€3,500.‑). Another highlight is the United States section with numerous sought-after items in fine resp. very fine condition (and frequently with certificates) such as a $5 Marshall (MiNo. 151) in perfect MNH ** condition (starting price €1,500.-). Since Dr. Brinkmann never exhibited his collection and did not have time to be active in associations due to his commitment to the family business, collectors will find numerous items in his collection that “disappeared” from the market decades ago.
Aside from the sought-after standard issues, the main catalog comprises a number of special items.
The Old German States are well represented, including four One kreuzer black (“Bayern Einser”). The equally popular classic of the Old German States philately, the Sachsen 3 Pfennige red (“Sachsen Dreier”) is also represented with one used copy in perfect condition with brilliant colors (as confirmed by the certificate), plate 1a (€4,200.-). Particularly noteworthy is a spectacular new discovery from a collector’s estate: only about 40 copies of the 50 pfennig “Deutsche Nothilfe” charity stamp from 1926 with the variety “watermark sideways” (MiNo. 401Y) in used condition are known. Only few of them are in perfect condition. The newly expertized copy that is offered for the first time is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful copies known (€2,000.-). Aside from numerous sought-after values of the colonial philately in MNH ** condition as well as rare covers and cancellations, the MiNo. 42y German post offices in Turkey is especially noteworthy. This stamp in perfect used condition that is lacking in most collections (starting price €1,500.-) will close a gap in the collection of the lucky buyer.
There is an impressive offer of field post stamps from the “Rhodes” collection that Dr. Fischer personally accepted on the island of the same name. Among the highlights of the collections is a copy of the Kuban small parcel stamp (“Kuban-Päckchenmarke”; rare type II) on the address label of a piece of cardboard packaging. The copy with the MiNo. 14II is offered at a starting price of €6,000.-. The post-war philately also includes a number of rare lots with highlights such as the “Posthorn set” of the FRG (MiNo. 123/38) in horizontal pairs (starting price €1,800.-) and blocks of four (starting price €4,000.-), each in MNH ** condition. The area of China includes sought-after issues such as the “dramatic arts miniature sheet” (“Schauspielblock”; MiNo. Bl. 8) with first day special cancellation (starting price 3,000.-) and the se-tenant MiNo. 1020/24 in an unfolded stripe of five with the left sheet margin in MNH ** very fine condition (starting price €3,500.-).
Almost all of the nearly 700 lots are from collectors. Countless estates are offered in their original untouched condition without any item selected previously. There is something for everyone, from a comprehensive German Colonies general collection on self-designed sheets in 5 albums (€6,000.-) to two impressive Switzerland collections (starting prices €6,000.- and €5,000.-, respectively) and a United States collection from the same collector (starting price €7,000.-) to a comprehensive stock of mission kiloware (350 kg in total!) divided into six lots.
Numismatics
With the 9th Rhenumis auction the auction house Dr. Reinhard Fischer e.K. invites you to their grand end-of-year auction. As usual, the auction house presents a very impressive and comprehensive offer and invites all collectors and coin enthusiasts to Germany’s former capital from November 23 to 25. There is a broad offer of antique and modern coins. The offer also includes medals, banknotes, lots and collections.
Classical Antiquity: Diverse offer with many Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins. An Ionian tetradrachm minted in Magnesia on the Maeander (2nd/1st century BC) in extremely fine condition (estimated price €2,500.-) as well as a tetradrachm minted under Attalus I in Pergamon (241-197 BC) with a high relief in very fine to extremely fine condition (estimated price €2,200.-) are especially noteworthy. Among the Roman coins are numerous lots of the Republic, from the imperial period to late Roman gold coins, including a solidus of Marcian from Constantinople (VF-XF, estimated price €1,000.-). Due to its very good condition, an aspron trachy made of electrum is particularly noteworthy in the area of Byzantine coins. The estimated price for this coin minted under Isaac II Angelos is €450.-.
Middle Ages: This auction includes over 50 lots in this area, predominantly bracteates that are for the most part in good condition such as three coins minted under Conradin in Schongau (1258-1268) in XF-BU condition (estimated price €400.- each). A bracteate of Sigmaringen-Helfenstein (1247-1263) is not as well preserved (VF) but very rare (estimated price €1,300.-).
Germany: The Old German States and the silver and gold coins of the German Empire as well as the commemorative coins of the Weimar Republic are well represented as usual. Especially noteworthy is a rare ducat of Brandenburg-Prussia minted in 1707 under Frederick I in Königsberg (estimated price €5,000.-).
Among the gold coins of the German Empire, a 20 mark coin of Prussia from 1915 with Wilhelm II in uniform (XF-BU, estimated price €4,000.-), 20 mark of Hesse from 1892 (almost XF, estimated price €1,700.-) and 20 mark of Anhalt from 1896 (XF-BU, estimated price €2,200.-) are worth mentioning.
In the area of Weimar gold coins, many issues are in PF condition. The issues for Meissen, the University of Tübingen and Lessing include 3 and 5 Reichsmark in PF condition. An oak tree coin minted in Berlin from 1929 is offered in PF (estimated price €500.-). A 5 Reichsmark coin Goethe is offered at an estimated price of €1,500.-.
Europe/overseas: In the area of Polish coins, a 2 as well as a5 złoty (NGC - MS 61) proof from 1936 are put up for auction. Both copies are rare and estimated at €1,000.-.
Aside from silver coins, the French coins include several gold coins such as a XF Louis d’or à la tête nue from 1669 (estimated price €1,400.-).
There is a broad offer of half dollars for collectors of American coins. Aside from the Hawaiian Sesquicentennial Half Dollar from 1928 (estimated price €1,000.-) and the issue Spanish Trail from 1935 ((NGC – MS 66, estimated price €1,000.-), over 120 issues are offered individually, including the complete Oregon Trail, Arkansas und Boone series.
Lots and collections: Aside from small lots, there is a wide range of large collections as well as estates of different areas. There is something for everyone, regardless of the period or area they are looking for. Especially in the area of the German Empire, there are lots of individual areas as well as comprehensive collections, including a collection with 2, 3 and 5 mark coins from Anhalt to Württemberg and several coins from the Weimar Republic (estimated price €4,000.-).
All lots have moderate starting prices and promise exciting bidding wars.
Court conditions générales
The sale of auction lots is subject to differential taxation. If we ship lots inside the EC, the buyer shall pay a buyers premium of 25 % of the hammer price and a lot fee of 3,– EUR per lot (both including VAT), also costs of shipping and insurance. If we ship lots to a country outside the EC, the buyer shall pay a buyers premium of 21 % of the hammer price and a lot fee a 3,– EUR per lot, also costs of shipping and insurance. If the goods are exported outside the EC by the buyer himself, it may be possible to refund VAT. For gold coins that are exempt from VAT, the buyer shall pay a buyers premium of 21 % of the hammer price and a lot fee a 3,– EUR per lot, also costs of shipping and insurance.
