240th Abacus Auction

Feb 29 - Mar 01, 2020

This is another bumper auction of 2,000+ lots and over A$1 Million in Estimates which will be held over two days with Part I Australian Commonwealth & Rest of the World Stamps, Postal History & Picture Postcards on Saturday 29th, February and Part II Australian Colonies Stamps & Postal History on Sunday 1st, March 2020.

Part I - Australian Commonwealth & Rest of the World
The highlight of the Australian stamps is the KGV Commemoratives including many complete sheets, multiples & varieties. KGV Heads featuring Cracked Electros, Decimals with proofs, errors and varieties, and extensive Postage Dues follow this, concluding with an extensive section of postal history as well as some fine picture postcards. Rest of the World begins with collection & accumulation lots. Postal History is especially strong, including a delightful section ‘Advertising in the Post’, the last of Colin Riddell’s Cocos Islands material, and much more from Ceylon, China, Great Britain, New Guinea, Seychelles, Solomons, Sweden, the United States, etc. India includes a range of very scarce booklets, and delightful hand-illustrated covers. New Zealand includes a range of very fine to superb Fullface Queens. We are also pleased to present a high-quality collection of Sarawak stamps, including errors and proofs, as well as for the first time ever, a complete set of the ‘Independent/Anguilla’ Overprints.

Part II - Australian Colonies Stamps & Postal History
The standout section of the sale is the fine collection of Western Australia Postal History formed over many years by Charles Lawlor from Shepparton in Victoria. Also included are a variety of collections assembled by John Booker from England, notably his Western Australian TPOs, Trans-Australian Railway material, South Australian squared-circles, island postmarks & manuscript cancellations. In addition, there is a wonderful array of exceptional stamps, including some extremely rare items, that would enhance even the finest of collections. Classsics, Destination Mail, Postmarks, US Fleet Cards, Charity issues, Postal Fiscals, South Australian Departmentals, Revenues, Pre-Stamp Mail, and many other categories all feature in this wide-ranging auction.
