Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - The 1857 Postal Convention, North German Lloyd; 1862 (Sept 27): Entire letter from Doullens to Belmont, New York, sent with the 'Hansa' of the North German Lloyd, endorsed "Par le Havre", bearing 1854 80 c. carmine (Yvert 17A), a fine and fresh marginal example tied by clear Petits Chiffres '1134' numeral, matching DOULLENS despatch cds in black and framed PD in red as well as handstruck '9' of Paris alongside. The adhesive lightly tied in addition by clear "NEW YORK PAID / OCT 14 / 15" cds of the exchange office in red. Sent with 'Hansa' of the N.G.L., leaving Southampton on 1 October, arriving in New York on 13 October 1862.
