Service' cover to H.M.'s Consulate General at Shanghai franked at
quadruple 4 c. rate with 1894 Pagoda ½ c. black/rose pair and two ½
c. red / yellow and a pair of Kiang 1 c. black, tied by violet
double framed oval "KEWKIANG / LOCAL POST", reverse with faint
"SHANGHAI LOCAL POST" cds. Horizontal creasing at top affecting two
stamps. The only known cover bearing the double framed oval dater
of Kewkiang, used between March and April 1895. This cancellation
is based on the official paid postmark but with the date replacing
the PAID. Provenance: Collection Charles Goodwyn, November 2001
