Cunard ...more Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Cunard line between 1st July 1840 and 31 May 1843; 1843 (March 24): Entire letter from Charlston to Guebwiller, Alsace with the 'Columbia' of the Cunard Line, endorsed "p Steamer Columbia", obverse with British framed "PACKET LETTER" in red, reverse with London and PARIS transit as well as crisp GUEBWILLER arrival (April 21) cds's. This 'Columbia' journey lasted from April 2-15 between Boston and Liverpool. Note: The 'Columbia' was the first westbound winner of the Blue Riband for the Cunard line.

Interlaken, Switzerland again, franked with 1854/57 Dotting in
Spandrels 8 sk. green (four margins but small top right corner
fault) together with 1864/68 3 sk. violet (3) each adhesive tied by
three-ring '17' numeral and FREDERICA despatch cds in association.
A wide variety of German, Swiss and Italian backstamps including
two different Lake Mail cancels, exceptional. Provenance:
