US Post Office in Mexico, 1914 (Aug 19): AR registered cover to
Manchester, England bearing single franking 12 c. Franklin tied by
"VERACRUZ MEX." duplex, violet registration handstamp to left,
reverse with Vera Cruz cds in same ink and New York transit.
Missing backflap and some light toning, a rare example of the
special 2 c. rate plus registration

Incoming Mail via Pacific Ocean 1876 (Jan 19): Cover from Shanghai,
United States Post Offices in China to Melbourne, Victoria bearing
USA 1873 Banknote 6 c. dull pink, corner fault, with with the cover
underpaid and held by the postal officials until uprated with 1873
2 c. brown pair (straight edge at left) on 14th April to make-up
the 10 cents prepayment for a 1⁄2 ounce ship letter to San
Francisco, and thereafter unpaid to Victoria. The under-payment not
recognised by the postal officials in the United States or
Victoria. A couple of minor tone spots, however, a very rare usage
from China in this period. Route: By steamer Shanghai 14 April 1876
to Hong Kong. Pacific Mail Steamship Co: Departed Hong Kong (21
April) per “Colorado” via Yokohama (1 May) to San Francisco (20
May); “Zealandia” (24 May) via Fiji (13 June) to Sydney (19 June).
Australasian Steam Navigation Co: Departed Sydney (20 June) per
“City of Melbourne” to Melbourne, arriving 22 June 1876 (69 days).
Note: The only recorded cover from the United States Post Offices
in China to the Australian Colonies. Provenance: Collection Landau
