1908-1960: Collection of predominately registered postal stationery
envelopes presented as a study of their type and usage. Comprising
thirty-two album pages with 80 examples neaty mounted and
described. Good range of unused, used and the odd Specimen, with
several uprated items and to good destinations as well as used
internally. Includes training school cancelled at Omdurman and a
quantity of aerogrammes and stationery envelopes. In addition, four
loose inserts with nine covers most of which have been sent via air
mail. Condition is fine to very fine, with some of the unused with
prestine fresh appearance. Valuable accumulation (90)

Egypt Stationery 1879/97: Group of five postal stationery examples
used in Wadi Halfa, Sudan. Includes rare 20 p. light-brown postal
card sent 28 November 1898 by Colonel Ironside to the Editor of the
Royal Engineer Journal (has faults/damaged) to Chatham, Brompton
Barracks. Also, 1893 5 m. envelope to Egypt during the Mahdist
occupation period; a 2 m. green envelope used to Cairo; a 3 m.
violet-brown postal card sent also to Cairo and a 1897 1 p. gray
green letter sheet with "SOUDAN" overprint in Arabic and French
sent to Italy 27 April 1898. Has interesting content regarding a
battle which states "My regiment suffered very severely as we had
nearly half the casualties of the whole brigade. We have had an
awfully rough time of it." Additionally, comes with three 1897 5 m.
carmine envelopes overprinted "SOUDAN" (H&G B3) uprated with
various combinations of the 1898 Large Camel postage and also a
1898 1 m. brown used wrapper sent to Alexandria (H&G E1). Very
mixed condition but a scarce and interesting selection (9).

21 items, many scarce. A valuable assembly of early Egypt and Sudan
postal stationery, including: 1884 Egypt 20 p. brown card used
Souakin–Messina (H&G 1) scarce usage; 1899 5 m. carmine
“SOUDAN” overprint with doubled surcharge, used
Khartoum–Copenhagen, with unused example (H&G 4x); 1906
Official 3 m. brown cards “SOUDAN / O.S.G.S.”, types A & B (H&G
D1/D1a); 1897 1 m. brown envelope “SOUDAN” overprint, only 250
printed (H&G B1); Large Camel 1908 4 m. brown card unused only
609 without overprint survive (H&G 13); 1909 2 m. surcharge on
4 m. brown card uprated Atbara–Paris to Th. Champion (H&G 9);
1917 3 m. reddish-purple card uprated Western Darfur–Wales
redirected (scarce foreign postcard use); 1913 5 m. deep carmine on
blue envelope (420 printed); 1906 5 m. carmine Official envelopes
“O.S.G.S.”, one favour-cancelled at Omdurman plus unused types
incl. double overprint (H&G DB1/DB1a); 1912 2 m. green envelope
with “COLONIAS” specimen handstamp, with unused/used examples
(H&G B8); and two 1940s Christmas Air Letter sheets (one with
elephant imprint). A choice and scarce group covering the evolution
of Egypt-Sudan stationery into the Large Camel period, with
numerous elusive issues and varieties.

Egypt Stationery: 1897 Assembly of thirty-one letter sheets and
postal stationery envelopes overprinted with "SOUDAN" in Arabic and
French in black. Comprising seven used (two uprated with 2 m. & 3
m. and one a 5 m.) and three unused of the 5 m. carmine on brownish
paper and five used and three unused (H&G G1) of the 1 p. gray
green on pale blue paper (H&G G2), plus one c.t.o. Of the
unused 1 p. there is one example showing the change to the Arabic
inscription at top (H&G G3). Condition is mixed although
several fine. Also thirteen 1897 stationery envelopes overprinted
"SOUDAN" comprising five 5 m. carmine of which there are two
unused, one c.t.o and two used (H&G B3) and eight 1 p. blue
including three unused (one which has "EXPRESS" overprint type D)
and five used; one which has 'Khartoum Uganda Service' steamer
headed illustrated letter sheet enclosed (H&G B4). Mixed in
places with several better or fine. Scarce assembly (32)

Egypt Stationery 1907: 2 m. black surcharge on 3 m. violet-brown
postal card, overprinted in black with "SOUDAN" in Arabic and
French, uprated with Large Camel 1902 2 m. green & brown, used from
Khartoum to Helsinki, Finland, dated 3 April 1909, cancelled by
circular datestamp in black with Helsinki arrival alongside dated
17 April 1909 also in black. A fine and scarce used example
(H&G 6). Comes with another card used without the additional
stamp sent to Alexandria (affected by slight climatic
discolouration). Also two unused examples of the same. A scarce
group (4)

Large Camel: 1902-1909 Collection of postal stationery envelopes,
lettersheets and postal cards. Presented as a study on twelve album
pages, comprising thirty-three examples. Including 1902 5 m. (4)
and 1 p. (5) unoverprinted envelopes, three of the 5 m. used and
two of the 1 p. used (H&G 5-6); 1906 5 m. (6) and 1 p. (4)
unoverprinted letter sheets including at least one used of each
value (the 5 m. registered with 1 m., 4 m. & 1 p. additional
postage); 1907 2 m. black on 3 m. reddish-lilac postal cards
(H&G 8); three 1908 2 m. green wrappers one "SPECIMEN" and a
used and unused example (H&G E4) and a used and unused 1 m.
brown wrapper (H&G 3). Lastly, 1909 4 m. brown postal card
surcharged 2 m. in black, three used and an unused. Condition is
mainly fine. Several scarce (33)

1920-1923: Collection of postal stationery cards, envelopes and
wrappers written-up upon thriteen album pages. Comprising
thirty-four examples unused and used predominately Small Camel
issues. Key items are; 1920 Large Camel 3 m. green postal card one
unused and one used from Halfa to Cairo (not listed by H&G),
only two used examples are recorded. 1922 Small Camel 10 m. red
postal card with "COLONIAS" handstamp diagonally in purple from the
U.P.U. distribution to Portuguese colonies. It is damaged at top
and has crease however a rare examples. The collection has thirteen
used examples many with additional postage and a few sent
registered. Overall a fine selection informatively presented as a
study of the issues and their usage. A scarce group (34). Note: It
is unclear why the 1920 Large Camel 3 m. green postal card was
printed in green instead of the reddish-purple. A theory is that
the colour of the local cards was kept green like the 2 m. cards
when the postage rate went up from 2 m. to 3 m. in 1917. When the
card was issued it is not precisely known as there is no mention of
colour in the De La Rue printing records. However, the last Large
Camel 3 m. printing was invoiced in December 1919. The only two
used cards are date 1922
