1854: Recess by Desmadryl 5 c. very deep red-brown, a used example
with good even margins all round, on 1856 cover (second sheet of
entire letter) to Valparaiso tied by target handstamp in black with
"Santiago / Chile" despatch cds (May 14) below. Underpaid by 5
centavos and struck with circular "10" (centavos) to pay in red for
double the deficiency. A most attractive and scarce cover

1880 (July 28): Partially paid envelope from Valparaiso, Chile to
Genova, redirected to Casella nearby Busalla, bearing left marginal
pair of 1877 Colón 5 c. dull lake rouletted, tied by indistinct
VALPARAISO cds and paying the internal double rate postage for
Chile, triangular-framed T and manuscript "13" decimi noted
alongside. In Genova Segnatasse 1870/74 1 lire blue & brown and 30
c. ochre & carmine were placed on front and tied by an indistinct
datestamp, later a pair 50 c. and 30 c. ochre & carmine dues were
added and tied by BUSSALA cds's (Sept 8, 1880). Reverse with
further datestamps from GENOVA and BUSALLA. Cover with wrinkles and
some edge wear, fold through the lower pair, nevertheless an
interesting part paid cover

Desmadryl 1854 (Feb): Desmadryl 5 c. chestnut-brown, a horizontal pair in an early deep shade with predominantly large margins all round, minutely shaved at upper right, used on underpaid 21 February 1854 cover to Valparaiso tied by six barred target handstamps in black with "SANTIAGO" despatch cds (21 Feb) in red alongside. Underpaid and rated "20" centavos in manuscript at right for a letter between ¾ and 1 ounce. An extremely early usage of the Desmadryl issue - the earliest recorded cover is believed to be dated 9 February 1854. Rare and delightful. Cert. Recess in Santiago "Estancos" 1856/62: Estancos 5 c. red, a single example used on 1862 cover from Santiago to San Felipe, poorly cancelled in black; underpaid for the ½ ounce rate and struck with Santiago cds (Dec 15), fine strike of framed "MULTADA" with circular "10" (centavos) tax marking all in red. An attractive cover.

1894: Washington, 2 cents carmine, type II, in combination with Chile postage due 1895, se-tenant 2 centavos and 4 centavos red on yellow, all good colour, perforations fair, the former tied by machine cancel “NEW YORK APR 23 1895”, the latter with framed “MULTADA” to a commercial envelope sent to Valparaiso, with charge “T CENTIMES 15”. Light vertical fold, not affecting adhesives. Soiling and a few short perforations to dues. Fine. Scarce se-tenant use of Chile first permanent postage due. Note: Of the four reported se-tenant pair covers, no duplicates exist of any two values in combination.
