horizontal pair used in combination with 2 c. deep purple, Plate
II, first printing, perf. 13½, four single examples on an 1884
single-rate cover. The 1 c. stamp at right shows a horizontal
crease, and the cover has a slight trim at the base and right.
Addressed to N. F. Seebeck in New York, all stamps are tied by 'Cap
Haitien / Haiti' cds's (Jan 11) in black. Reverse with 'New York /
Paid All' arrival (Jan 18). A fine and very rare franking.

Reverse with Kingston arrival cds (Aug 1). The 5 cent rate per 15 grams was applicable for a foreign letter 'Caribbean rate' under 300 miles. Just two covers known, the other (ex Hubbard, lot 200) has faults and was mailed later in the year. black and Jamaica registered oval in black alongside dated 8
September 1888, soiled, although a very rare mailing and very
scarce combination franking; the only recorded 'Caribbean Area'
rate cover franked with Salomon stamps; the 35 c. franking pays a
five-times 'Caribbean Area' foreign letter rate (for distances of
less than 300 miles) and the 10 c. registration fee. This letter
