1851-60: Royal Crown 6 pence mustard-yellow, blued paper,
imperforate, fresh colour, large margins on three sides and just
touching lower left corner, used on cover from New Brunswick to New
York, USA, dated 29 September 1851, tied by framed oval barred
cancellation (RH Type C1), with partial strike of blue Exchange
Mail "NEW BRUNSWICK V. R. 1851" handstamp alongside. Reverse with
"ST JOHN N.B. SE29 1851" in black. Three vertical filing folds not
affecting stamp. A very fine and desirable cover paying the 6 d.
rate to the United States, carried via the exchange office. The
“mustard-yellow” shade is scarcer than the normal yellow and highly
prized on cover. An attractive and important New Brunswick Six
Pence cover - a cornerstone item for a Maritime Provinces or BNA
collection. Certs. RPSL (1998) & Sismondo (2012) which states
"...earliest date of posting known of any cover bearing the six
pence stamp..." Provenance: ex Dale-Lichtenstein.

1851-60: Royal Crown 6 d. yellow, blued paper, imperforate, two
diagonally bisected halves from different stamps positioned
together, strong colour, the right bisect with shaved margins, the
other with ample to large, used on an envelope from Chatham, New
Brunswick to Boston, USA, dated August 1858, tied by blue grid
cancel with “ST. JOHN N.B. / AU 11 / 1858” circular datestamp in
black alongside and red circular "PAID 10" transit mark. Reverse, a
blue “CHATHAM N.B.” towndated (AU ? 1858). Envelope has been folded
back at left for display. Extraordinary franking, produced by the
use of two different bisected 6 d. stamps to make the 6 d. rate.
Illustrating an exceptional makeshift usage not often seen.
Exhibition-worthy New Brunswick rarity - one of the most unusual
bisect frankings recorded, and a highly desirable cross-border
cover. Certs. RPSL (2012) & PF (2007). Provenance: ex.
