1St Imperial Airways Experimental Flight cover to Australia with a
1/- and 4d cancelled BRISTOL APR 2 31. The flight left London on
April 4 and was due to arrive in Melbourne on April 20 but only
arrived on the 29th. This cover has been signed by Charles
Kingsford Smith who carried the mail on part of the journey from
Akyab to Darwin. This flight ran out of fuel at Soepang so was
delayed. The cover has a Melbourne 29 APR 1931 backstamp. B.P.A.

1944 incoming GB 3d Prisoner of War post card to Private Ben Gold,
Borneo Camp, sent from HARROW 15 JY 1944. The card has a red
British censor cachet on the front. This Japanese internment camp
was called Batu Lintang, or Lintang Barracks. It was in Kuching
(technically Sarawak) and was unusual in that it housed both Allied
P O W’s and civilian internees. Of the approximately 2,000 British
POWs held there, over two-thirds died during or as a result of
their captivity. A very scarce card as few items have been recorded
going into this camp

line 'RECEIVED DAMAGED BY FIRE' In the early hours of 4th August
1949 a carriage on the train travelling between Ladysmith and
Pietermaritzburg caught fire, The train stopped at Frere station
where the crew managed to contain the fire. On arrival at
Pietermaritzburg the van was sealed, then escorted by police to
Durban. The majority of the mail was destroyed

Streynsham ...más India 1663 (Mar 16) incoming letter from England to Mr. Streynsham Master at Surat written by his sister, Margaret Master, sent by brother, Charles Master at Langdon Abbey. Received in Surat 1664 (Sep 18). Travel time 1½ years. Transcript of letter included. Sir Streynsham Master (1640 –1724) was an English colonial administrator who was one of the 17th century pioneers of the English East India Company. He came to India in 1656 and was employed by the East India Company in 1660, serving as the Acting President of the East India Company's factory at Surat. In 1670 he led the English in the successful defence of his company in Surat against the Marathas. He served as the Agent of Madras from Jan 1678 to Jul 1681. He also served for a time as the Agent of the company's factory at Masulipatnam and then Bengal. In 1860 he banned Sati (burning of a Hindu widow)
