singles on entire letter from Cork Barracks, 8th September 1840, to
London. Each stamp with four margins, tied by indistinct red
Maltese Crosses. Cork SE 9 1840 departure cds, SE 10 and SP 12 1840
transit via Dublin, and arrival marks. Four single 1d Blacks on an
entire are seldom seen—a scarce Irish cover from Cork

"Proof" overprint in red, with 1½ d red-brown with Thom black
overprint, used on 1922 cover from Belvelly to London tied by local
datestamp in black (April 20), small corner crease on the ½ d. and
part of back flap missing, otherwise a fine and very rare usage of

all round, used within fancy embossed "♚ / FREE" surround on
envelope to Rostrevor, tied by "316" obliterator of Lurgan in
black. Reverse with Lurgan despatch cds in blue (Aug 31), Banbridge
transit in green (Aug 31) and Rostrevor arrival cds in blue (Sept
1). A charming and scarce usage.

first year of use of the separate 'CORK' and 'SHIP' handstamps,
forwarded via Dublin where straight line 'COUNTRY' handstamp
applied on backflap, London Bishop mark applied on 20 June,
originally charged 5 d., cancelled and uprated 11 d. with 4 d. for
Cork - Dublin over 40 miles, 1 d. Ship Master's gratuity, and 6 d.

Tipperary sent under free concession and endorsed "Free: C. Heath
30 Oct." at lower left, Bishop Mark "OC / 30" despatch on reverse
and obverse with circular "FREE / D" deleted with manuscript
"Supposed Counterfeit" above and Inspector's marking "GR / ♚" in
red adjacent. Charge raised of "1/4d." due to pay in manuscript.
The Inspector's doubts were confirmed upon opening the letter which
was from a Mr. William Conway, and the Official wrote "This frank
is genuine except the date" alongside the sender's signature. A
rare and most unusual entire.

1842: Entire letter from Dublin to Limerick, cancelled contrary to
regulations with fine complete strike of the Maltese Cross in black
with Dublin despatch just above the Cross in red (July 17). Reverse
with Limerick arrival cds in black (July 18). If adhesives have
been removed the entire was still contrary to regulations, and it
appears that the Dublin cancellation was placed specifically in its
position so that there was no charge raised in Limerick.

ENNISKERRY TWO PENNY POST in red and rate "7", departure and
arrival bs, very fine strike. Note: The Two Penny post was an
extension of the Dublin Penny Post and conducted by the rules and
officials of the Penny Post. The service was extended in 1774 to 4
miles and in 1819 to 6 miles, a further 1d being charged on the
delivery of each letter. Enniskerry was the only office to have
used a distinctive Two Penny handstamp,

Double arc CORK (April 25) and WATERFORD (April 26) transit cds's in black. Readdressed upon arrival to Lord Lisle at Lynmouth with prepaid charge "1" again in red ink, and three line dated "DEVONPORT / PY. POST" (April 29) and "MISSENT TO DEVONPORT" applied in red - a curious usage as the letter was redirected rather than misdirected. A fine and interesting entire.

part of backflap missing, nevertheless a remarkable item, believed
to be the only recorded ship letter from Clonmel which was further
