Paper SG 53a [BB], characteristic wayward centring, unused with
small-part gum, Cat £4500. Unissued: prepared in 1860 for an
anticipated rate increase that was not approved. 10,000 sheets were
printed, of which 8,962 were destroyed after the issue did not
proceed, and a further 1,000 sheets were overprinted 'SPECIMEN' for
distribution on notices to postmasters (see Lot 2076).
