1891 (JY 11) cover to London franked at 2½d rate by 1885-87 1d brownish claret vertical pair (from left of the sheet with imperf margin) and single bisected diagonally, tied by three strikes of ‘First Bisect’ cork cancel (Barnes 1/90) with very fine type F2 dispatch cds at left. Red London arrival backstamp of 'AU 11 91' on reverse. The piece with the stamps neatly cut out then hinged back into place, and minor creasing, still a fresh and attractive example of this provisional usage. SG 8a cat £4,000

1891 (AU 3) part cover (right half) to Leeds franked at 2½d bisected rate by 1889-91 1d red-brown, watermark upright, lower right corner horizontal pair with imperforate sheet margins and a BISECTED single, well tied by ‘First bisect’ cork cancels (Barnes 1/90), with very fine type F2 despatch cds below. Carried by S.S. Karnac to Montevideo, thence by PSNC Sorata to London. Slight faults not affecting stamps of fine fresh appearance. An attractive example of this rare usage. 1891 large part envelope to London, bearing 1d red-brown horizontal pair and diagonal bisect, all with watermark reversed. Tied by clear strikes of the ‘Large Squares’ cork cancel (Barnes 1/91), with despatch CDS of OC 28 below. London arrival backstamps of DE 3. Slight soiling, and with the upper left corner of the face panel cut away, still a presentable example of this rare usage, enhanced by the watermark variety. SG 11ax

(shades), ...mehr Recess in Santiago "Estancos" 1856/62: Estancos 10 c. blue (shades), the Exhibit collection on leaves with 10 c. unused examples (4) in differring shades, two used examples with pre-printing paper folds, used examples showing the watermark and shade differences (14); Multiples with extremely rare block of ten - this being one of the largest known - marginal inscription pair, three strips of three and a strip of four; cancellation study with straight line handstampss of Constitution (on bisect piece), Parral (on bisect piece), Petorca, Santa Rosa and framed "Franca"; red and blue obliterator cancels and a fine range of covers with 10 c. pair used to USA Consul in Valparaiso (ex coll'n Gerhard Blank), single franking 1861 cover with "TOME" straight line adjacent, marginal inscription 10 c. on cover to Tocopilla; two examples on cover with straight line "S.ANTONIO" adjacent, cover front to France from Concepcion bearing three 10 c. sky-blue cancelled in blue; three single franking covers (one to Peru); and bisected usages (3) including one with MOLINA straight line handstamp. An outstanding lot (47 items).
