Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Open mail; 1860 (Jan 23): Entire letter from Le Havre to New York with the 'City of Washington' of the Inman line, endorsed "p. City of Washington", bearing Napoléon imperf. 80 c. carmine (Yvert 17), a fresh and fine example, tied by Petits Chiffres '1495' numeral, matching "BUREAU-MARITIME HAVRE" despatch cds and framed "P.P." in red alongside. Obverse struck in transit by "LONDON PAID" (Jan 24) cds and US '6' in circle. The 'City of Washington' made its journey from Liverpool to New York between January 25 to February 8.

Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Open mail; 1860 (Dec 23): Entire letter from Le Havre to New York with the 'Glasgow' of the Inman line, endorsed "Steamer Glasgow, Liverpool le 26.", bearing Napoléon imperf. 80 c. carmine (Yvert 17), a fresh example, margins from shaved to large, tied by Petits Chiffres '1495' numeral, matching "LE HAVRE" despatch cds in black and framed "P.P." in red alongside. Obverse struck in transit by "LONDON PAID" (Dec 25) cds and US '6' lightly overstruck on adhesive. The 'Glasgow' made its non-contract journey from Liverpool to New York between December 24 to January 11, 1861.

Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Open mail; 1865 (Feb 27): Entire letter from Le Havre to New York with the 'Hansa' of the North German Lloyd line, endorsed "p. St. Hansa from Southon", bearing Napoléon perf. 80 c. rose (Yvert 24), two single examples and a pair, one adhesive crossed by filing fold, cancelled by indistinct Gross Chiffres numeral, "LE HAVRE" despatch cds in black and framed "P.P." in red alongside. Obverse struck by "NEW YORK SHIP LETTER Mar 13" cds and US '8' in circle. The 'Hansa' made its journey from Bremen via Southampton on March 1st to New York on March 13.

Transatlantic mail between France and the USA and vice versa - Open mail; 1868 (Jan 3): Double-rate Entire letter from Le Havre to New York with the 'Aleppo' of the Cunard line, endorsed "Steamer Aleppo via Liverpool", bearing pair Napoléon lauré 80 c. rose (Yvert 32), an overall fresh and fine multiple with minor perforation irregularities, cancelled by Gros Chiffres '1769' numeral and tied by fancy cancel as well as BOSTON transit cds (Jan 22). The obverse of the entire struck in addition by "LE HAVRE / LE PORT" despatch cds, framed "P.P." handstamp in red as well as "LONDON PAID" transit cds (Jan 4). Upon arrival in the States struck by SHIP and '6' cents credit handstamps to the States in black. The Cunard Vessel 'Aleppo' made its journey from Liverpool on January 7 via Queenstown and Boston to New York where it arrived on January 26.
