Worldwide Thematic Collection – PIGEON MAIL, KITES & GLIDERS, 1898–2010 (15 Exhibition Pages). A fascinating and highly original specialised thematic collection devoted to pigeon post, kite mail and glider experiments, mounted on 15 exhibition pages (including one oversized A3). The assembly comprises ca. 70 items and combines proofs, essays, scarce stamps and remarkable postal history, providing a coherent study of mankind’s earliest airborne communications. Highlights include: 3 artist’s essays, notably original adopted artwork by André Lavergne and rare bird sketches by Nick Shrewring (Bahamas), 4 die proofs, 5 Greece Olympic Games colour proofs (stamp-size, 2 on wove paper, 3 on card), 1898 Great Barrier Island “Pigeon Post” selection (6 unused), French military pigeon post postal history, including: Cover from the Military Pigeon Loft Station, Belfort, bearing the blue boxed “COLOMBIER MILITAIRE BELFORT” handstamp, Postcard dated 18 July 1904 from Military Pigeon Loft Station, 71 Bd. Victor, Paris, with black “Croix Rouge Française – Colombophile” vignette, 1905 “Le Matin” Newspaper Pigeon Post flimsy message actually carried by pigeon, Printed postcard “La Poste par Pigeons” with attached envelope labelled “Message par Pigeon”. Additional worldwide commemorative and pigeon-themed issues, including Mauritania UPU Specimens depicting a pigeon carrying a letter. Condition is generally fine, with many items of significant rarity and exhibition calibre. A superb specialist thematic study on an unusual and appealing subject, combining depth in proofs and essays with scarce pioneer and military pigeon post items. 1884–1940s: Sudan & Egypt Postal Stationery Collection comprising 21 items, many scarce. A valuable assembly of early Egypt and Sudan postal stationery, including: 1884 Egypt 20 p. brown card used Souakin–Messina (H&G 1) scarce usage; 1899 5 m. carmine “SOUDAN” overprint with doubled surcharge, used Khartoum–Copenhagen, with unused example (H&G 4x); 1906 Official 3 m. brown cards “SOUDAN / O.S.G.S.”, types A & B (H&G D1/D1a); 1897 1 m. brown envelope “SOUDAN” overprint, only 250 printed (H&G B1); Large Camel 1908 4 m. brown card unused only 609 without overprint survive (H&G 13); 1909 2 m. surcharge on 4 m. brown card uprated Atbara–Paris to Th. Champion (H&G 9); 1917 3 m. reddish-purple card uprated Western Darfur–Wales redirected (scarce foreign postcard use); 1913 5 m. deep carmine on blue envelope (420 printed); 1906 5 m. carmine Official envelopes “O.S.G.S.”, one favour-cancelled at Omdurman plus unused types incl. double overprint (H&G DB1/DB1a); 1912 2 m. green envelope with “COLONIAS” specimen handstamp, with unused/used examples (H&G B8); and two 1940s Christmas Air Letter sheets (one with elephant imprint). A choice and scarce group covering the evolution of Egypt-Sudan stationery into the Large Camel period, with numerous elusive issues and varieties.
