of ...mehr 1850: Goat's Eye, 60 reis black, grey paper, bottom marginal block of ten, deep shade and fresh colour, touch top of one stamp otherwise good to large margins all around, tied by manuscript “Sao Franco. Do Sul” (S. Catarina) and dated “9 1856 1” (I Jan 56) to the back of a large envelope sent to Glauchau, Germany, with transit cds “RIO DE JANEIRO 5 2 56” (5 Feb) in black and a London cds “19 MR 1856” alongside “SEEBRIEF PER ENGLAND UND AACHEN 11 3 56” (11 March) both in red. Front, endorsed “Per Steamer via Southampton” and rated in manuscript “6/8” (British) in black and “85” (German) in blue. The usual wrinkles and mild creasing, the adhesives remarkably fresh. Spectacular franking. Cert. Moorhouse (2003).
