1885/96: Group of five postage due covers, two incoming from
overseas, one outbound to UK and two circulated domestically.
Noted; 1896, envelope sent from India franked with USA Grant 5 cent
chocolate (Scott 223) tied by “BASSEIN” local cds with Rangoon and
Sea Post on reverse, sent to New York, charged “5 CENTS” and 1884,
5 cents bright claret postage due tied to flap. Also, inbound
stampless cover from Norway to South Norwalk, USA, with Copenhagen
transit and postage due applied and Jefferson 1882, 10 cents brown.
Two interesting examples, which come with two which feature “HELD
FOR POSTAGE” marks. Some faults.

UNITED STATES POSSESSIONS Cuba 1898 cover to Norway, franked with
vertical strip of 5x2c carmine, tied by "United States Post Office
Military Station No.1, CUBA" handstamps, showing on back New York
July 9, 1898 transit and "Kristiania" (23.7.98) arrival markings,
trivial cover wrinkling, otherwise fine. The first military station
opened at Daiquiri, Cuba on 23 June, 1898. The first postmark was
undated, so "Earliest Use" cannot be documented. Based on an
average of about 2 1/2 weeks delivery time from Cuba to U.S., this
cover, which transited NY on 9 July, would possibly have been
included in the first mail dispatch from Daiquiri. It is
furthermore a cover to a foreign destination, possibly the only one
sent during that time
