CAMEROON FRENCH AND BRITISH ADMINISTRATIONS 1915–1963: Exceptional
collection presented on eighty-five exhibition pages, with key
issues and postal history, comprising important mint and used stamp
sets together with 73 covers and cards, documenting the transition
from German Kamerun to French and British administrations. French
Occupation includes 1916 first issue with key values (unused),
complete 1916–17 sets on unsurfaced and chalk-surfaced papers (mint
and used, incl. varieties), and 1918–22 Occupation covers
(registered and censored). French Mandate period represented by
registered, censored and airmail usages, including Greek customs
inspection label, extensive WW2 censorship (military censor,
adherence to General de Gaulle issue, mixed frankings), railway
line cancellations (Northern, Central and Branch lines), maritime
mail (West Africa lines), and post office usages. British
Occupation well represented with complete 1915 set (SG B1/B13)
unused with varieties, and covers including scarce mixed frankings
(triple) and an attractive hand-made Royal Engineers Christmas card
from the West African Expeditionary Force. Later material includes
British Trust Territory and early Federal Republic usages. A
substantial and well-developed holding of both stamp issues and
postal history, rich in occupation material, censorship, railway
and maritime usages. An excellent basis for further expansion or

Occupation of the Lebanese Republic by the Free French Forces
1942/1946: Censored & Military Mail. An interesting group of six
covers relating to the occupation of the Lebanese Republic by the
Free French Forces, mounted and written up on album pages. The
selection includes: an envelope to England bearing a “Contrôle”
label and various censor markings. Mail from Poste aux Armées
F.F.L.–2 (Damascus), including a registered cover carried on a
French Army flight from Syria to Madagascar, with boxed cachet
“Poste aux Armées des F.F.L.”. Two further registered examples. A
registered cover from Bureau Central Militaire No. 1 (Beyrouth).
The group provides a concise illustration of Free French military
postal operations and censorship during the wartime and immediate
post-war occupation period. Condition is as might be expected for
military and censored correspondence of this era, though generally
fine overall. A scarce and historically significant assembly of
Free French Forces occupation mail from Lebanon. Provenance: Ex

prison was closed at this date and the envelope bears on obverse

imperforated ovpt. REUNION without accent 40 c. orange, a right
marginal horizontal strip of three as well as 1 fr. olive, a single
adhesive from the lower right sheet margin and a horizontal strip
of four (Yv 14+16), tied by "REUNION SAINT PIERRE" cds in blue,
information strike and framed R in the same ink alongside, reverse
with Shipmail "LA REUNION A MARSEILLE" octagonal datestamp,
"REUNION / POINTE DES GALETES" transit and STRASSBURG arrival
(March 29) cds. Envelope roughly opened at base on reverse as flap
was stuck down with wax seals, now missing, margin close at base of
second 1 f. stamp, others with good to large. A fine and rare
cover, signed Calves Yv = € 4'700. Note: The cover is directed to
Joseph August Schorong who served as bailiff of Strassburg.
