interesting contents with tremendous detail of the goings-on;
advertisements include those for Wells, Fargo & Co., McCombe's,
Freeman's Express, including illustrated article of "Mr. [Snoeshoe]
Thompson, the Carson Valley Expressman..." with printed
illustration showing Thompson on Skis in the Mountains and includes
details of his route and efforts in delivering express mail to
Carson Valley, letter on message portion of lettersheet datelined
"Chinese Camp March 14th 57" reads in part "They are having a great
time to Sonoma thear is eleven to be hang[ed] right of[f] some for
killing white men and some for killing black men Spaniards and
rob[b]ing and so forth, I think I shall go up to see some of them

Wonderful four-page illustrated lettersheet with three pages of printed advertising, and one for message; first page illustrates steamship and lists the names of the ships in the Nicaragua (Vanderbilt) line: Northern Light, Star of the West, Prometheus, Daniel Webster, Sierra, Nevada, Cortes, Uncle Sam, Pacific, and Brother Jonathan; second page contains more details on rates of passage, etc. with printed Cha's Morgan, Agent, No 2 Bowling Green, New York; third page has the letter datelined New York Dec 1, 1855 signed by Chas Morgan which reads in part "Grenada is not on our line, but if you will enclose a letter or letters to me for Col Walker, I have no doubt they will reach him." Colonel Walker being the filibusterer in Nicaragua; fourth page shows large illustration of the steamship line's office in New York with G. H. A WONDERFUL COLLATERAL ITEM FOR THE NICARAGUA LINE COLLECTOR. EXHIBIT WORTHY. Cornelius Vanderbilt opened a route across Nicaragua in 1851 to compete with the U.S. Mail Steamship Company and Pacific Mail Steamship Company which held the U.S. Mail Contract via Panama. His handstamps typically boasted "Ahead of the Mails." He subsequently became a competitor to the PMSS on the Panama route

Illustrated ad showing Concord Coach on verso of cover on cover to
Bennington, Vt., franked with 1851 3¢ orange brown tied by blue
"Concord, N.H. Sep 19", small cover tear a bottom right, Very Fine,
a lovely advertising cover for the Concord Coach used from Concord,
N.H. Estimate; $200 - 300. The J.S. and E.A. Abbott Company was a
historical iteration of a famous carriage and wagon manufacturer.
Initially, J. Stephen Abbot (1804-1871) was a partner in the Abbot
Downing Company, which revolutionized 19th-century transportation
with the Concord Coach. After the original partnership dissolved in
1847, Abbot went into business with his son(s), operating under the
name J.S. and E.A. Abbot and Company. This company continued to
build Concord coaches and other carriages.The company manufactured
various types of carriages and wagons, including the renowned
Concord Stagecoach. The company's legacy is primarily associated
with the Concord Coach, a robust and comfortable stagecoach known
for its unique suspension system using "thorough braces" instead of
springs. It became widely used in the American West by Wells, Fargo
& Co. for its durability and adaptability to rough terrain
